A Gift from the Grandparents: Snack Boxes the Grandkids Love
I've got more than ten great-grandkids, and I've bought my share of presents. Here's what I've learned: toys get lost under the bed by New Year's. The gift they remember is the one they can eat, and the one their mama didn't have to worry about.
So if you're a grandparent looking for something to send, here's how I'd do it.
Why a snack box makes a good gift
It gets used. It goes in lunchboxes, backpacks, cup holders and the snack drawer, and when it's gone you get to send another one. One grandma wrote that she bought a box for her grandson, and then her daughter called to say she liked them too.
It's also a gift the parents can say yes to. Seven ingredients, 100% grass-fed beef, no refined sugar, and nothing that has to go straight in the fridge. When you're sending food to somebody else's children, that matters.
Which box for which grandkid
- Little ones and lunchboxes: the Classic Minis. Twenty sticks at 0.65 ounces, sized for small hands.
- Teenagers and grown grandkids: the Classic. Ten full-size sticks at 1.5 ounces, for the ones who are always hungry.
- A house full of ages: the Family Bundle. Twenty Minis and ten Classics in one box. That's the one I'd send.
Every box is the same one savory flavor, and it isn't spicy, so you don't have to guess who likes what. Every stick is wrapped on its own, so a handful of Minis also makes an easy stocking stuffer.
Check with their parents first
Before you send food to somebody else's house, ask the parents. They know about allergies, school rules and what's already in the pantry. Here's everything in ours so they can check: 100% grass-fed beef, water, coconut sugar, sea salt, citric acid, spices and celery juice powder, in a beef collagen casing. There's no peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish or sesame ingredient. There is coconut sugar, and some schools list coconut with tree nuts, so let the parents check it against their school's list.
They'll likely ask about sugar, too. Two grams of coconut sugar in a full-size Classic. The Minis are the same recipe; there's just so little per stick that the panel rounds to 0g. No refined sugar in either.
How to send it straight to them
- Put the box in your cart.
- In the cart, tick This is a gift.
- Write your message (up to 200 characters) and put your name in the From box. We'll include your note in the box.
- At checkout, enter the grandkids' address as the shipping address.
The gift note is for one-time orders; it doesn't show when a Join the Family subscription is in the cart. Sending to more than one house? Place one order for each address, so each family gets its own box and its own note.
When to order for the holidays
We pack and ship within 1 to 2 business days, Monday to Friday, and most boxes arrive 3 to 7 business days after that. We ship within the United States.
December mail runs slow for everybody, so I'd order early.
Shipping, plainly
One-time orders ship free on eligible rates once your order is $85 or more after discounts. Under $85, you pay the carrier rate, and checkout shows it before you pay. A Family Bundle and a box of Classics together clears $85, if you're sending to a big household.
If something arrives wrong
If your box ever shows up damaged or wrong, you tell me and I'll make it right. Just let us know within 7 days of delivery. Because it's food, we can't take returns, so please don't mail anything back.

Can I send Miss Kay's beef sticks as a gift?
Yes. Put the box in your cart, tick "This is a gift", write your message, and enter the grandkids' address as the shipping address at checkout. We'll include your note in the box.
How long can the gift message be?
Up to 200 characters, plus your name in the From box. The gift note is for one-time orders, not subscriptions.
Which box should I send to grandkids?
The Minis for little ones and lunchboxes, the Classic for teenagers and grown grandkids, and the Family Bundle (twenty Minis and ten Classics) for a house with a mix of ages.
How long does shipping take?

Do they need to be refrigerated when they arrive?
No. They're shelf-stable, so the box can go straight in the pantry. Once you open a stick, eat it that day or pop it in the fridge.
